In France, Good Friday is not a holiday - going back to the days of the revolution when the practice was outlawed. We boarded the bus for the Haute Loire region and more specifically - Le Puy. After a 1.5 hr bus trip- definitely not driving inFrance -Tanya we reached Le Puy. Talk about history- after watching a lace making display, we headed to the Cathedral of Notre-Dame du Le Puy - built around 961. Then we readied ourselves for the climb of 300 steps- straight up to the church of St Michel - built on top of a volcanic plug. The views were spectacular. After the trip down, we followed standard practice of lunch - crepes this time and we were not disappointed, both main and afters. Found a distillerie where a particular herbal spirit was brewed - Vervein - of varying alcoholic strengths. We , of course, had to taste and buy.
A restful trip back to the Hermitage, then preparing ourselves for the night' s activities.
Cheers,
Steve & Annette
