Going down South

Hola,
The trip is fast drawing to a close, not without a few last flings.
We spent Anzac Day- 25 April- on the walls of old Avila. Great experience, skies were going overcast and there were many steps to walk up and turrets to climb - overwhelming to experience so much history. There are 2.5 Kim's of walls to walk but not all is open to the public, we managed around 1.3 kms plus about 20+ torrents to climb. These feet were made for walking.

Thursday, 26 April: said our goodbyes to the newly found members of the CITeS community, took some great shots of the contemplative atmosphere of the physical community and caught a bus to Salamanca some 90 kms away. The weather was turning cloudy and wet and we were told a hurricane was coming- didn't eventuate thanks goodness.

Arrived in Salamanca, found accom across from the auto estacion and headed off to the old city. After some tapas and vinos, soaked up some culture in the form of a Flamenco concert- many oles!!!
Friday, 27 April: was spent climbing - literally the 3 major cathedrals & churches- ended up at St Esteban's (Stephen). Blewout on a brilliant meal of Spanish cheeses, veal and tasty choc desserts washed downed with provincial Spanish reds and whites- all for less than 90 Euros.

Sat, 28 April: came the toughest test of confidance- we hired a car- Citroen C3 Picasso- brilliant little diesel- road rules another thing- Annette handled very well - we ended up down south at Merida - Hotel Zeus- made a big move away from the Christians and into roman ruins territory. Not before we went to Alba de Tormes to view the final resting place of Teresa of Jesus and her church and museo.

The rain in Spain really does fall mainly on the plains!!!!!!
Gracias!
Steve & Annette

Location:Merida, Spain
