Saturday, 14thApril

Finally have some time to chat. After a couple of more days in Roma where we had a Papal audience-he does it every Wed - bitterly cold and windy- but managed to find a great ristorante where they serve brilliant Trippa (Tripe). 10s of thousands at St Peter's that day. We got to know the Metro very well. Next day -Thu- went back to the Vatican, hired an English speaking guide and toured a very small no of the 1100 rooms at the Vat & finished up in the Sistine Chapel. Stunning ESP as the frescoes have been cleaned. Still masses of people but the Romans seem to have nothing to do with Workplace H & S -ESP the way they parked. Viva la Roma! Ciao!
Back to Fiumicino, finally our flight left at 1.40am! Got to Nairobi at around 9am local time- approx a 7 hr flight. Kenya is unreal, Nairobi ESP. The abject poverty there u cannot believe. We were taken to our accom by a couple of 21 sweaters with the luggage ontop! After some refreshment, back to the CBS and the Nairobi markets!, what an experience! We were the only 'whiteys' around and were we noticed and hassled, cajoled ( only for money) and confronted! More about that later. Had a fabulous meal at the Carnivore' a restaurant where they serve only spit roasted meats- incl croc, ostrich, lamb, pork, e on the move chicken, beef and ox balls, got some great photos.
Today-Sat, after some input re the Marist & political situation in Central Eastern Africa, we had a less hectic morning. We then visited the Marist International College - a training institution for young brothers, a secondary college an disabled lifeskills training. They gave us a typical African welcome. We then headed off to the Nairobi game Park for our own African safari. Some chose to visit their animal nursery instead. Lions, giraffes, buffalo, croc, zebras, gazelles, rhinos - no elephants.
Tomorrow Sunday , we are on the move after attending an African mass which could last as long as 2 hrs, apparently. Depends on the singing & the preaching fervor of the local priest. The locals will be attending as well. Most of the bigger communities here are gated and guarded- 24hrs. We then fly to Rwanda after a visit to Karen Bilsen house ( Out of Africa thing).
God only knows what is in stall for us there.
Remember Friends and Wine!
